Quality Control for Injection Molding(Plastic Molding Process)

Injection molding is the most widely used process of making plastic product.
In injection molding process, heated and melted plastic compound is injected into a mold, and cooled down and hardens to form product while it is shrinking itself.
To maintain process accuracy of formed product, it is most important to control the process by measuring the temperatures of die and processing product.
With conventional temperature measurement to use thermocouples embedding at several spots in the die, we could gather only the temperature information of few points. On the contrary, TVS is widely used as an effective measuring instrument since the TVS captures easily the temperature distribution of the whole surface of die or product in process at the instance of die opening.

Temperature Distribution Measurement of Molding Die

Since the temperature of die affects greatly the shrinkage, process cycle, appearance of product, process accuracy and material properties, it is very important to make sure that the stabilities of these factors are ensured by measuring temperature distribution using TVS.
With observing the transition profile of temperature distribution from the beginning of process, it is also necessary to find from which number of shot attains to stable process performance.

Temperature Distribution Measurement of Formed Product

On formed products, there are spots where it is hard to cool down effectively, such as the place where bosses or ribs concentrate, or pins of holes for self-tapping exists.
By measuring temperature distribution on formed product using TVS, it is possible to verify the cooling effect to make partial corrective cooling, as required, for insufficiently cooled portions.
